Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading O&M provider in the energy sector to recruit an Operations Production Engineer for its combined heat and power plant in Seascale, Cumbria.

Responsibilities and duties of the Operations Production Engineer role
  • Support the delivery of site operational strategies, ensuring consistent performance across day and shift teams.
  • Lead and develop operational personnel, promoting safe, reliable and efficient plant operation.
  • Oversee the coordination of work control processes, chairing relevant meetings and ensuring operational impacts are clearly communicated.
  • Act as an operational subject matter expert on compliance, incident response, functional safety and site standards.
  • Monitor daily operating data, production losses and plant status, ensuring accurate reporting and timely action close‑out.
  • Provide operational support during plant upsets or incidents and deputise for the Operations Manager when required.
  • Drive continuous improvement across plant performance, processes and procedures, keeping up to date with industry trends and regulatory requirements.
  • Build effective relationships across the site, contractors and external stakeholders, representing Operations professionally at all times.
  • Maintain Senior Authorised Person competencies, including LV and HV authorisation, and ensure adherence to Safe Working Procedures.
Professional qualifications
  • HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or working towards completion.
  • Process Principles Operations 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent operational qualifications.
  • Experience in a continuous process or production environment.
  • Familiarity with Safe Systems of Work, including permit to work, risk assessments and incident control.

  • A proactive leader who can guide and mentor operational teams.
  • Highly organised, able to balance safety, commercial and operational priorities.
  • Calm under pressure with strong decision‑making abilities in abnormal or emergency situations.
