Operations Director – Contract Logistics – Multi-User – North Europe

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead our contract logistics operations across multiple shared-user warehousing sites. This role is key in delivering operational excellence, client satisfaction, and growth across our UK multi-client distribution network.

Reporting to the VP Contract Logistics – North Europe, you will oversee operations, client management, compliance, people development, and financial performance. You will also support new business launches and collaborate with commercial teams to expand our capabilities.

NOTE: This is a hybrid role requiring regular travel and can be based anywhere in the UK.

How You Will Contribute

Operational Leadership

  • Lead daily and strategic logistics operations across client accounts and sites.
  • Optimize resource allocation to meet SLAs and KPIs.
  • Standardize best practices while customizing solutions for clients.
  • Drive transitions, integrations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary operational contact for clients, building trust-based relationships.
  • Ensure proactive communication, issue resolution, and service enhancements.
  • Work with commercial teams on contracts, onboarding, and scaling services.

People & Performance Management

  • Lead site managers, operations teams, and support staff.
  • Promote a safety-conscious, accountable, and developmental culture.
  • Develop talent pipelines through coaching and succession planning.
  • Manage operational budgets and profitability.
  • Collaborate with Finance on forecasting, variance analysis, and margins.
  • Oversee billing, invoicing, and reporting accuracy.

Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, safety standards, and client requirements.
  • Lead audits, quality checks, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain and enforce SOPs across operations.
  • Implement efficiencies via lean methodologies and performance improvements.
  • Support deployment of WMS, TMS, automation technologies.
  • Benchmark and adopt industry best practices.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, logistics, or business.
  • Extensive experience managing contract logistics in a multinational environment.
  • Proven ability managing multi-client warehouse operations.
  • Strong commercial understanding and operational excellence.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with critical thinking and teamwork skills.
  • Results-driven with a proactive approach.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
