Position: Operational Technology (OT) Manager
Location: High Wycombe, Perth WA (with travel to remote sites as required)

About the Role

SMS Mining Services is seeking an experienced Operational Technology (OT) Manager to lead the strategy, governance, and management of our OT environment across mining and rental operations. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this role is key in ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient integration of OT systems, including fleet management, remote communications, industrial networks, and site monitoring with SMS’s corporate ICT systems. You’ll be instrumental in driving digital transformation, reducing risk, and building technical capability to support our long-term operational growth.

What You’ll Be Doing
Strategy & Governance
  • Develop and implement SMS’s OT strategy in alignment with business objectives and technology roadmap.
  • Maintain governance frameworks for OT systems including security, compliance, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure alignment and integration between OT and ICT environments to support efficient operations and reporting.
Operational Technology Management
  • Oversee deployment, operation, and maintenance of mining OT systems (fleet management, communications, remote monitoring, IoT).
  • Lead the design and management of OT networks, including radio, wireless, and backbone communications.
  • Ensure high availability and resilience of critical OT services across all sites.
Cybersecurity & Risk
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls aligned with NIST, CIS, and industry best practice.
  • Identify, assess, and manage OT-related risks, with strong collaboration across ICT and site teams.
  • Ensure robust incident response and recovery plans are in place.
Projects & Innovation
  • Lead OT infrastructure upgrades, communications rollouts, and integration projects.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies such as AI, automation, LEO, and IoT for operational improvements.
  • Support ERP and data warehouse integration to drive analytics and smarter decision-making.
People & Vendor Management
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and development to internal teams and site-based personnel.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships for OT and ICT solutions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe systems of work are maintained.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience in mining, resources, or heavy industry.
  • Strong understanding of fleet management systems, SCADA, plant networks, and industrial communications.
  • Demonstrated experience leading OT/ICT integration projects.
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management capability.
  • Leadership experience across remote or complex operating environments.
  • Qualifications in IT, Communications, or a related discipline (desirable).
