Contract Type: Permanent.
An on‑call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is "on call" to respond to a range of emergencies and to engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds – then they become professional firefighters. The work may be referred to as "part‑time", but on‑call firefighters are trained and experienced front‑line personnel who save lives and protect people and community assets. They are paid for their services, receive thorough training and acquire all necessary knowledge of emergency situations as well as additional personal skills.
You do not need prior experience; a comprehensive training programme will be provided. What is important is enthusiasm and the ability to meet essential requirements. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely after being alerted to an incident. This role can be physically demanding, so physical fitness is of utmost importance.
Eligible applicants must work and/or live within 4 minutes of the Fire Station; failure to meet this criterion will result in automatic rejection.
