Job description
Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department with an interest in Oncology / Head and Neck Cancer. The unit provides Oral & Maxillofacial service, Oral Surgery, and Restorative dentistry. It also houses a Day Case GA / LA operative theatre and accesses a Cone Beam CT scanner. The department offers a full range of Maxillofacial Surgery and the opportunity to develop subspecialist interests including TMJ, orbital trauma, and surgical dermatology. The post is integrated into a multidisciplinary team providing acute and elective care, teaching, audit, and urgent and emergency service.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver outpatient clinics and elective inpatient and day case surgery.
  • Provide urgent and emergency care, including out-of-hours on‑call working.
  • Supervise core trainees and SAS clinicians and contribute to teaching, training and audit.
  • Develop a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service.
  • Support a subspecialist interest in the management of skin cancer and OMFS trauma.
  • Contribute to the skin MDT in conjunction with Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and Histopathology.
Qualifications
  • Full GMC and GDC registration.
  • Entry onto the GMC/GDC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview).
  • CESR or European Community Rights.
  • Appropriate higher Oral & Maxillofacial surgical qualification.
  • ALS and ATLS certification.
  • Knowledge of the principles of research and evidence of recent involvement in research.
Experience
  • Broad experience in all aspects of oral & maxillo‑facial surgery.
  • Proven interest and experience in Head & Neck surgery, including facial deformity.
  • Experience in surgical dermatology.
  • Experience of emergency care.
  • Evidence of involvement in research projects.
