Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a part‑time Occupational Therapist to join our Mental Health team at HMP Lancaster Farms, a Category C prison located on the outskirts of Lancaster, Lancashire.

HMP Lancaster Farms consists of 550 male inmates. As an Occupational Therapist you will work within the mental health team, seeing patients in the healthcare department and also on the prison wings.

<>Hours:

  • Monday – Friday
  • 22.5 hours per week
  • Hours to cover 8 am‑4 pm

Salary:

Part‑time; annual salary up to £43,609 – £49,175 per annum FTE, depending on experience, pro‑rata.

Main duties
  • Provide occupational therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation.
  • Support high‑quality patient care and rehabilitation aimed at improving or maintaining independence.
  • Manage a caseload of patients with varying difficulties, respond to changing needs, and balance prevention of admission and discharge priorities.
  • Assess and order equipment as identified by patient need and allocate work to OT assistants or care staff as necessary; establish communication networks with other team members, patients and other health and social care agencies; attend joint visits with other professionals as required.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in occupational therapy with current professional qualification (HCPC).
  • Post‑registration experience and evidence of continued professional development.
  • Understanding of the complexities of multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards.
  • Experience in hospital, community or prison environment is desirable.
Eligibility and checks
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Offers of employment subject to additional vetting and security checks.
  • Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (previously CRB) will be required for criminal convictions check.
  • Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
