Job description

Exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Mental Health Team for a permanent Band 5 role for an Occupational Therapist who wishes to work in acute mental health wards. An opportunity to develop knowledge and skills, provide evidence based occupational therapy assessment and intervention for people with complex mental health needs.

Based in Doncaster; including the P.I.C.U, you will be working in mental health clinical settings that will offer a variety of experiences. You will be joining several supportive multidisciplinary teams with a focus on delivering rehabilitation and recovery for people.

The role of the Band 5 Occupational Therapist will be to assess, plan intervention and evaluation the treatment plans for a range of patients under the supervision of the Band 6 Occupational Therapist.

Qualifications

One needs to have broad knowledge of current theory and best practice in occupational therapy, principles of a holistic, person-centred approach to care, confident and effective communicator with patients, carers and staff of all professional groups as well as with external partner agencies.

Responsibilities
  • To provide a high standard of clinical work to patients with a variety of diagnoses. This will include assessment work, group work, individual treatment planning, evaluation and discharge planning.
  • To assist individuals, where appropriate, to perform activities of daily living.
  • To work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients receive a co-ordinated treatment package that is delivered in an efficient and timely manner.
  • To assess for and arrange provision of assistive equipment appropriate to patient need ensuring and train carers in the safe use of this equipment.
  • To use effective professional interpersonal skills when discussing assessment and intervention with patients and carers with different levels of comprehension.
  • To refer individuals on to other professionals and agencies as appropriate to their needs.
  • To act as an advocate for patients and provide support and advice to their family and carers as appropriate.
  • To liaise closely with other professionals involved in patient care across Doncaster and surrounding areas regarding clinical issues.
  • To work flexibly across the services, providing cover where necessary as part of a 5-day rota alongside the senior Occupational Therapist.
