Job Summary

States of Guernsey is looking for an Occupational Health Clinic Nurse to join the occupational health team. The post will support specialist nurses and, after training, induction and assessment, undertake a range of occupational health clinical activities. The role will contribute to the development and delivery of Occupational Health Services in line with relevant guidance and legislation, working in partnership with Health & Social Care departments such as Health and Safety and Control of Infection to achieve corporate objectives and deliver a quality service.

This role offers a competitive salary, progressive annual leave, pension entitlement and a relocation package for candidates moving to the Bailiwick of Guernsey. An 8‑Year Long Term Employment Permit is available for off‑Island candidates, allowing them to bring immediate family members who can work on the Island. Good schools are available for those wishing to relocate with their families.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Work autonomously and manage workload within a multidisciplinary occupational health team.
  • Deliver service standards for Occupational Health contracts to HSC, other States of Guernsey Departments and external clients.
  • Screen pre‑work health assessment forms, assess fitness for proposed posts and record findings.
  • Schedule and conduct staff and external client immunisations and screenings in line with policy and guidance.
  • Advising staff and managers on work‑related immunisation requirements and conduct immunisation clinics.
  • Manage body fluid exposure incidents, liaising with relevant parties to minimise risk.
  • Assist with delivery and development of targeted health surveillance programmes (audiometry, spirometry, vision testing, etc.).
  • Develop and implement written procedures and policies, supporting research‑based activities.
  • Work with the OHA to publicise Occupational Health Services and provide high quality care.
  • Plan and deliver health promotion and annual flu vaccination campaigns for HSC staff, States of Guernsey Departments and private organisations.
  • Ensure adequate departmental medical, pharmaceutical supplies and equipment, and maintain records in accordance with the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2017.
  • Assist in contact tracing and follow‑up for staff exposed to infectious pathogens.
  • Order, undertake and interpret relevant tests and investigations, liaising with other health care professionals and advising staff on results.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register.
  • Evidence of qualifications related to occupational health or specific skills such as spirometry, audiometry, and immunisation administration (desirable).
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years post‑registration nursing experience (essential).
  • Knowledge of current occupational health issues and relevant legislation.
  • Experience of team working, people management and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of audit/research, occupational health setting or related screening and vaccination programmes (desirable).
Person Specification
