Occupational Health Advisor

Location: Thames Valley Police HQ, Kidlington, OX5 2LP (Hybrid)

Contract: Full-time, 37 hours per week (6 month contract with potential extension)

Pay Rate: £23.88 PAYE per hour

Start Date: ASAP (subject to police vetting)

About the Role

Thames Valley Police is seeking a dedicated Occupational Health Advisor to provide expert health advice and support to Police Officers, Police Staff, Specials, and Volunteers. This role is pivotal in promoting health, safety, and wellbeing across the organisation and ensuring that all staff are fit for their roles.

This is a hybrid role, primarily home‑based, with bi‑monthly visits to the Occupational Health Unit for health surveillance clinics, as well as occasional in‑person attendance for training and team meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist Occupational Health advice and guidance for management referrals.
  • Conduct health assessments and provide advice on fitness for role, reasonable adjustments, and adjusted duties.
  • Undertake health screening and surveillance to meet medical standards for recruitment and specialist roles.
  • Administer vaccinations and perform blood sampling in line with clinical protocols.
  • Provide expert consultancy on medical issues, infectious diseases, and health promotion initiatives.
  • Support policy development and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Wellbeing standards.
  • Maintain professional development in line with NMC revalidation.
Essential skills and experience
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a Diploma / Degree in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • Recent Occupational Health experience with resilience to manage sensitive cases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adaptable to different audiences.
  • Strong ability to work independently, prioritise, and manage time effectively.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the Force area.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; willing to learn new systems.
  • Commitment to attending safe workforce training and briefings.
