Job summary

A leading law firm in Central London is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer due to the forthcoming departure of the current officer. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in risk and compliance within a law firm and could ideally be a solicitor with a minimum of 8PQE. This non-fee-earning position offers a six-figure salary and requires excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills. Segal Placements is working with a high‑flying and profitable Central London law firm who are keen to receive applications for a Chief Compliance Officer position due to the imminent departure of the individual who currently occupies that position. Individuals who can start immediately would be particularly welcome. A full job specification is currently being prepared which will be disclosed to suitable candidates; suffice to say that the successful candidate will at the very least satisfy the following 2 criteria :

  • Ideally but not essentially, a solicitor qualified to practice in England & Wales (minimum 8PQE) or else with other suitable qualifications.
  • An individual who has previously served as or is currently serving in a SENIOR Compliance role either for a law firm (preferable) or else in‑house but previously within a law firm or else has an exceptional experience of Regulatory and AML matters as they apply to private practice.

Exposure to certain areas of law / practice areas would be advantageous and these can be discussed in due course. Due to the seniority of this role, although it is a non‑fee‑earning position, our client understands that a six‑figure salary is appropriate.

Skills required
  • Significant experience in a senior risk and compliance role within a law firm.
  • Legal qualification desirable, but not essential.
  • (Ideally) In‑depth knowledge of UK property law, conveyancing procedures, and associated regulatory frameworks would be an advantage.
  • Expert understanding of the SRA Standards and Regulations and AML legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills and ability to focus on detail as well as the larger picture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and confidence across all levels of seniority within the firm.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate and practical guidance and precedents.
  • Strategic thinker with commercial awareness.
  • Excellent leadership skills and a willingness to take responsibility and ownership of issues and problems.
