O&G Clinical Teaching Fellow AMS

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialist Trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to undertake this one year, out of training programme post in medical undergraduate education. This post is specifically designed to deliver high quality education to the substantially increased numbers of undergraduates in obstetrics and gynaecology in line with the changes to the curriculum. The emphasis of the post is on clinical teaching; the post holder will lead specific small group clinical teaching sessions in all clinical areas (wards, outpatients, acute settings), allowing assessment of clinical core competencies (obstetrics and gynaecology history taking and examination). The successful applicant would be expected to develop and participate in educational research, and development of innovative teaching materials. We would encourage and fund registration for a higher qualification in medical education.

The post holder would be expected to have a demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and be IT literate. They would aid the continuing improvement of the undergraduate teaching programme at the Birmingham Women's Hospital.

As part of the post, there will be sessions protected in the weekly timetable to allow specialist clinical interests to be pursued.

Main duties of the job

To support teaching and assessment of increased number of undergraduate medical students within our Trust.

To provide an opportunity for a Specialist Registrar to opt for a 12 month educational secondment prior to completing CCST.

To support the School Education Unit (University of Birmingham and University of Aston) in curriculum development and educational research.

Birmingham Women's Hospital has a lead role in developing and guiding the new curriculum for undergraduates in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Development 1).

The post will support this evidence based education programme and further develop the module in line with the modern education strategy to fulfil the requirements for Teaching Quality Assurance criteria.

The post holder will have significant responsibility for the teaching programmes e.g. take part in teaching clinics, small group teaching, academic in days and student assessment.

The continued improvement of the undergraduate teaching programme at the Birmingham Women's Hospital.

The active collaboration with the School Education Unit at The University of Birmingham in educational research.

Develop new teaching innovations for Undergraduate Medical Education.

Conduct research into undergraduate medical education.
