Overview

We are seeking a Housing Repairs Technician - Painter to join the Facilities & Environment team within Operations at Ashfield District Council. This temporary role has been created to cover a peak in workload and will involve carrying out repairs and maintenance work to council-owned, private, tenanted, and empty properties, as well as other authority-owned buildings. The role requires carrying out all types of repairs and maintenance work allied to the painting trade discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose remedial works, organise materials, and complete jobs within target timescales.
  • Attend appointments on time and aim to complete works on the first visit.
  • Undertake repairs in other trade disciplines where competent.
  • Minimise disruption to customers' homes and ensure properties are left clean and tidy.
  • Remove waste/debris daily and maintain high standards of customer care.
  • Assist with stocktaking processes and support day-to-day operations of the Stores facility.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment such as forklift trucks and telescopic handlers where required.
  • Report repairs, hazards, safeguarding concerns, or tenancy breaches identified during duties.
  • Complete documentation and records accurately, including time monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and council policies.
Qualifications
  • Essential: City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 (Painting) or equivalent.
  • Essential: A current valid driving licence.
  • Experience in building construction, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
  • Experience dealing with the public and external agencies.

Duration: 20 Weeks (likely to be extended)
Hours per Week: 37 (Mon - Thu 08:30 - 16:30, Fri 08:30 - 16:00)

Pay Rates
  • PAYE: £14.82 per hour
  • Limited/Umbrella: £18.85 per hour
