Job summary

Job description
Overview

Under the direction of the Lead Nutrition Nurse the post holder will act as an informed resource; to provide specialist advice and support for patients with complex nutritional challenges requiring enteral and/or parenteral nutrition, and act as a role model, whilst developing competencies as a clinical expert in their field of specialism. Work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as an informed resource and provide specialist advice and support for patients with complex nutritional challenges requiring enteral and/or parenteral nutrition.
  • Act as a role model and develop competencies as a clinical expert in the field of nutrition specialism.
  • Be an integral member of the multi‑disciplinary team providing nutritional care to patients in hospital and from the community.
  • Deputise for Lead Nurse as appropriate.
  • Provide excellent, specialised, evidence‑based clinical nursing practice in nutrition support, including nutritional screening and clinical assessment of patients.
  • Train, guide and supervise registered nurses, healthcare professionals, patients, carers and relatives in hospital.
  • Assist and support the multidisciplinary team by ensuring patient conditions are reported accurately, plans of care and instructions are correctly conveyed to ward nurses, medical staff and that prescribed treatments are administered.
