Main duties of the job
  • The successful candidate will support the Ward Manager and team of nursing staff within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) / Acute Medical Assessment (AMA) and Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury. Extensive post-registration experience is required.
  • You will be an experienced Registered General Nurse (RGN) and be able to lead and assess the work of the nursing team, building upon clinical and managerial experience.
  • Instrumental in supporting the Ward Manager with continuous improvement of the department, monitoring and maintaining high standards of care reflected in patient experience. Sound clinical knowledge and experience in an acute medical setting is essential.
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise, manage and control the activities of a department efficiently; assess and implement appropriate care for new and current patients while ensuring adequate staffing levels and appropriate use of resources.
  • Actively participate in teaching, training and supervision of all staff grades. Be receptive to change, dynamic, and provide ongoing development support to more senior colleagues.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proactive management style. Be flexible and responsive to changing workload and multidisciplinary team needs.
