This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding Navigo family, working as a Nursing Assistant within the Acute services, which encompasses single point of access (SPA), crisis, liaison, home treatment, substance misuse and the inpatient lodges. Main duties of the job

The role of a Nursing Assistant is pivotal to the safe and effective delivery of mental health services, supporting the delivery of care packages and the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of the individuals using our services. This will include providing emotional support, assisting with activities of daily living and advocating for the individuals who use our services. The role is also imperative to ensuring that working practices are safe and effective through implementation of risk management plans, supervision, continuous professional development and reflection.

We're currently considering candidates for inpatient acute.

Job responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities vary depending on the specific role and service; however all of our Nursing Assistants are supported by a team of qualified professionals. Duties include:

• To develop knowledge and understanding of the lived experience of people in your care so that you can provide the right support that will meet their own identified needs.
• To advocate for your service users so that they are at the forefront of designing their own mental health care and support and so that their voice is heard at all levels.
• To develop supportive and caring relationships with individual service users and to provide daily support through encouragement, understanding and motivation.
• To deliver prescribed 1:1 and group interventions within the scope of the support plan, with care and compassion (examples may include but are not exhaustive):
• Budgeting, benefits and welfare rights
• Diet, exercise and well-being
• Planning, shopping and cooking of meals
• Education, occupation, training and development
• Healthy lifestyle, healthy choices
• Activities of daily living
• Administering of oral medication
• Rest, relaxation and vocation
• To provide updates to senior staff of individuals mood, behaviour, interaction, motivation and mental health so that plans of care can be reviewed accordingly.
• Sensitively support individuals with activities of daily living with the goal to meet these needs and enhance these essential living skills.
• To work with and without direct supervision.
• Help identify early signs of relapse and regression by monitoring the individual's progress, level of functioning and mental state and alert the appropriate staff involved in the person’s care.
• To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.
• Be able to work flexibly within the different elements of the appropriate service pathway when required.
• To ensure delivery of care in accordance with care plans and risk management plans.

Person Specification

Knowledge

• A foundation knowledge of mental health.
• A keen interest in mental health, as evidenced by research on the subject.
• Knowledge of benefits and housing systems.

Additional Requirements

• Able to work shifts, covering days and some nights, weekends and bank holidays.
• Currently eligible to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Care certificate, or prepared to work towards completion of this within two years.
• GCSE or equivalent qualification (level 2) in Maths and English.
• Mental Health First Aid.
• First Aid.
• IT or equivalent qualification to level 2.

Experience

• For Support Workers:
• No experience necessary.
• Experience working in a mental health setting.
• Experience effectively communicating with people who have additional needs in this respect.
