Job summary

A leading childcare provider seeks dedicated apprentices to create an engaging and safe environment for children ages 6 months to 5 years. You will support their development while working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care. Responsibilities include teaching, communicating with parents, and ensuring a high level of service within the setting. The role offers a full-time placement with a salary of £14,918.80 for the first year, and training is provided both in the workplace and online.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Creating fun, engaging and safe environment for the children
  • Teaching within the EYFS requirements
  • Partaking in a range of indoor and outdoor activities
  • Supporting the children with a range of self-care needs such as feeding and personal hygiene
  • Communicating with other team members and parents
  • Working in a childcare setting with children ranging from ages 6 months to 5
  • Liaising with external agencies, parents and providing a high level of service for the childcare setting, recognising when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and acting to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure
  • Applying legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (e.g. food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, accidents, injuries and emergencies)
  • Applying the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice
  • Teaching children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety
  • Using a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child
  • Developing and maintaining effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child
  • Undertaking the role and responsibilities of key person
  • Recognising and applying theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children
  • Providing sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years
  • Advocating for all children's needs, including children who require SEND or EAL support
  • Promoting and facilitating children's interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships
  • Supporting children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture
  • Supporting children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours
  • Assessing the responsiveness of the environment for effective child‑centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements
  • Creating inclusive, child‑centred, dynamic, innovative and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors
  • Creating an inclusive and supportive emotional environment that enables the child to feel safe, secure, respected and experience a sense of wellbeing, maintaining and prioritising the individual child's voice
  • Applying strategies that support children's ability to manage change, transition and significant events
  • Analyysing observation evidence to assess and plan holistic individual learning based on a comprehensive understanding of the child's needs and interests
  • Facilitating and supporting child‑centred opportunities and experiences based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy
  • Providing adult‑led opportunities and experience based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy
  • Using reflection to develop themselves both professionally and personally
Training & Development
  • Working towards an Early Years Diploma – Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care
  • The apprenticeship lasts 14 months and is supported by a dedicated assessor, a mentor and other staff within the nursery
  • Required dedication, commitment and punctuality for success

  • Attending online training with the assessor for 1 day a week during the first 8 weeks for classroom-based learning, then working within the nursery with support
  • Completing a qualification in paediatric first aid; attending online training with a tutor for 1 day a week during the first 8 weeks; laptop/PC essential for online learning
Pay & Working Hours
  • £14,918.80 for the first year, possibly increasing depending on age
  • National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices – check current rates
  • Full-time placement, minimum 30 hours a week; 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday (shifts to be confirmed)
