Advert Practice Educator – NHS Grampian Mental Health and Learning Disability Practice Education and Development Team

37 hours – Band 7: 1 Post

Base to be – Royal Cornhill Hospital (MH/LD Post)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Mental Health and Learning Disability (MHLD) Practice Education and Development Team for a Band 7 Practice Education Facilitator (PEF) to cover the Mental Health/Learning Disability Portfolio.

The post is supported by NHS Education for Scotland and is hosted within the Mental Health and Learning Disability Service of NHS Grampian. The team covers the Health and Social Care Partnership areas of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray and the post holder will provide practice education support to all mental health areas within these partnership areas. The post holder will also work closely with Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen University and the North of Scotland Colleges.

The PEF role will provide support to students, learners and staff within the portfolio. The post requires the development and maintenance of a learning environment where both education and lifelong learning are integral to practice. The role aims to enhance the quality of the practice learning experience and positively contribute to the future nursing/midwifery workforce in line with local and national directives.

Responsibilities
  • Support and educate undergraduate nurses and other staff in mental health and learning disability settings.
  • Develop and maintain a learning environment that promotes education and lifelong learning.
  • Enhance the quality of the practice learning experience for staff and students.
  • Contribute to developing the future nursing/midwifery workforce.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered nurse at 1st level with at least Band 6 experience, including supervisory experience of undergraduate nurses.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in mental health and learning disability nursing.
  • Evidence of leadership skills and the ability to support others in practice.
  • Excellent communication and caring values, team spirit, sense of humour.
  • Dynamic and forward‑thinking approach focused on safe, efficient and person‑centred care.
  • Education to degree level or equivalent and a nationally recognised teaching qualification (further development supported).
  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a car for travel across Grampian.
  • Courageous communication and influencing skills.
