Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Night Shifts (4 on, 4 off)
Location: Chiswick, London
Salary: £61,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Shift Pattern: Nights Only – 4 on / 4 off

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a critical site in Chiswick, working a permanent night shift rota. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong mechanical building services experience, exposure to controls/IBS systems, and the ability to work within a fast-paced, technical environment. Experience supporting or working around UPS systems is also required.

Key Duties
  • Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across a wide range of building services equipment.
  • Work on pumps, motors, AHUs, FCUs, boilers, valves, CHW/LTHW plant, heat exchangers and general HVAC equipment.
  • Support critical infrastructure, including assisting with UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems and generators where required.
  • Monitor building services systems overnight and ensure all plant operates safely, efficiently, and in line with compliance standards.
  • Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to minimise downtime.
  • Support IBS/building controls interfaces to ensure mechanical plant responds correctly to system demands.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, update work orders and follow site procedures.
  • Adhere to all health and safety requirements and elevate any risks promptly.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure seamless night operations.
Qualifications and Skills
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
  • Experience supporting critical building services, including UPS and generator-backed systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC plant, mechanical systems, and statutory compliance.
  • Experience working within a critical, high-reliability or shift-based environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with BMS/controls or IBS preferred.
  • IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent) desirable.
