Naval Air Defence Systems Proving Engineer

Salary : Up to £45,000 (depending on experience)

Working pattern : Predominantly onsite at Bristol

Security : UK national security clearance required (British Citizen or dual UK national)

The Opportunity

I’m recruiting on behalf of a leading UK defence organisation that is expanding its Naval Air Defence Systems capability. Due to current and upcoming programmes, they are looking to bring in Systems Proving Engineers with strong experience in trials planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting.

This role is particularly well suited to individuals transitioning from the Armed Forces who have been involved in :

  • Ground, harbour, sea, and firing trials
  • Weapons, missile, or combat systems proving
  • Trials readiness, system acceptance, and risk management
  • Integration of complex systems in demanding operational environments

You’ll be joining a team responsible for proving, validating, and assuring mission‑critical naval systems before they enter service.

The Role

As a Naval Air Defence Systems Proving Engineer, you’ll play a key role in taking systems from design through to proven capability. Working closely with systems engineers and design teams, you’ll plan and execute trials that demonstrate performance, safety, and operational readiness.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Planning, generating, and executing system and integration trials
  • Ensuring the right trials data is captured to support acceptance and decision‑making
  • Investigating issues uncovered during trials and supporting their resolution
  • Producing clear, structured trials documentation
  • Preparing for, delivering, and closing out Trials Readiness Reviews
  • Conducting post‑trial data analysis and reporting

You’ll be directly involved in, or supporting, a wide range of trials activities, including :

  • Laboratory‑based functional and integration trials
  • Ground‑based trials
  • Harbour and sea trials
  • Firing trials
  • Trials conducted overseas
  • Travel within the UK and internationally is part of the role.
Additional Responsibilities

Alongside trials delivery, you’ll support the wider proving environment by :

  • Maintaining risk assessments, safety documentation, and compliance standards
  • Supporting lab management, audits, and asset control
  • Managing hardware and software configuration control
What We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for candidates with experience gained in :

  • System integration and system proving
  • Design verification, acceptance, and assessment
  • Naval, weapons, missile, or combat system environments
  • Ground, maritime, or operational test and evaluation
  • Electrical or mechanical systems integration
  • Electronic test, interfacing, or network integration
  • Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll be working with engineers, managers, suppliers, and partner organisations.
Desirable
  • Experience with MBSE tools (e.g. DOORS, Rhapsody, RTC)
  • Exposure to coding or scripting, particularly Python
