Nurse or Midwife – Children's Safeguarding Team

Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Nurse or Midwife to join the Children’s Safeguarding Team. This unique role will involve working across Maternity and Paediatrics to support the Named Nurse and Midwife, safeguarding children and unborns, and collaborating with partnership agencies.
Responsibilities
- Support the Named Nurse and Midwife and the wider safeguarding team to advocate for children.
- Provide support to junior staff to enhance their safeguarding knowledge and confidence.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings both internally and with partnership agencies.
- Deliver safeguarding training to staff across the Trust.
- Work closely with the Senior Safeguarding Practitioner, Designated Professionals and the Head of Safeguarding.
- Advise police, social care and other agencies on safeguarding children and unborns in acute and community settings.
- Assist in risk assessment, analysis and completion of safeguarding documentation.
- Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and ensure professional accountability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse or Midwife with significant experience working with vulnerable patients.
- Education to degree level (or ongoing degree pathway) with evidence of teaching and assessing skills.
- Good understanding of safeguarding children and unborns, or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Experience of working with children, families and multi‑agency clinical services.
- Demonstrable experience of placing children at the centre of care and decision‑making.
- Leadership experience, including planning and delivering training.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Computer literacy and ability to write detailed notes/reports.
- Cleared by Occupational Health and able to work flexibly to meet service needs.
- Minimum of 18 months post‑qualification experience.
Desirable Criteria
- Understanding of the legislative framework related to child protection and safeguarding.
- Experience of leadership/management and change management.
- Evidence of working in multi‑agency clinical services and complex family environments.
- Experience of delivering audit and training to families or professionals.
- Knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on children.
- Ability to think creatively and build relationships with external organisations.
