Job description

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to introduce new temporary posts for doctors passionate about their practice and career development. These posts combine education and career development with practical patient‑facing care, ideal for those seeking to increase anaesthetic experience before applying for specialty training or consultant posts.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide anaesthetic care (acute and elective) and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions.
  • On‑call for obstetric anaesthesia, critical care or acute on‑call, depending on experience and competency.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams, cross‑specialty meetings and regional anaesthesia lists.
  • Perform relevant administration duties.
  • Teach and supervise junior medical staff and other clinicians.
  • Engage in audit, clinical governance and service improvement activities.
Essential person specification
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
  • Medical degree from a recognised medical school.
  • Evidence of achievement of foundation competences or equivalent in line with GMC standards.
  • Completion of CT2 post or equivalent in anaesthesia.
  • Certificate of completion of initial competencies in obstetric anaesthesia.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Pre‑registration/foundation training and at least one year in a relevant specialty in an NHS Trust or equivalent overseas experience.
  • At least 2 years experience in anaesthetics or intensive care medicine.
  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Good time management.
Desirable attributes
  • Progress towards or attainment of Royal College exams.
  • ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS certification.
  • Higher qualification such as MFARM, FRCS, MRCP, MRCPG, MRCS, FRCA or equivalent.
  • Dynamic and enthusiastic with a desire to develop further in a specific area of anaesthetics.
  • Up to two years additional training or experience in related specialties at CT level.
  • Relevant experience from other specialties.
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills.
  • Clinical research and development.
  • Recent experience in the NHS.
