Job description
Overview

The post is aimed at a Senior Plastic Surgery trainee. The 12‑month micro fellow post will be based at the Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. The role starts February 2026 and is suitable for a post‑CCT or equivalent; some fellows have had Out of Programme Training counts with necessary approvals.

Responsibilities
  • Gains training in microsurgical reconstruction 2–3 days per week.
  • One day per week (or two half days) allocated to other duties within the department including trauma or covering absence of colleagues when necessary.
  • As a senior trainee, provide help to junior trainees in oncological reconstructions and coordinate trauma and other cases.
  • One day per week (or two half days) could be made available for cosmetic surgery lists within the private sector if the individual wishes; this will be outside of the hours for this post.

The postholder will be allocated to assist and will gain training in microsurgical reconstruction; there are 21 consultants in the department and a mix of training grades in place (6 Specialist Registrars, 3 trust grade posts at registrar level, 8 Core Trainees and 1 Foundation Year doctor).
