Job description

Are you a recent Psychology or Criminology Graduate? Are you interested in a career in mental health? Are you interested in learning therapeutic and restorative practices?

A Specialist School in Reading are seeking a vibrant and friendly graduate to join their team as a Mental Health Support Worker, and support their pupils with mental health needs.

The students at this school range from 11 to 18 years and come from diverse backgrounds with notable social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Many students will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, trauma and exhibit anti-social behaviours as a result. The pupils therefore need 1:1 support and guidance, to help them regulate their thoughts and process their emotions in a healthy manner.

This is a classroom-based role. You will collaborate with the class teacher, and mental health professionals at the school, to help engage and support the students. You will identify and address possible triggers for the pupils, concerning their trauma and psychological needs. You will also help with classwork and ensure they are meeting both academic and emotional milestones.

This is a fantastic platform if you are a graduate, looking to build your experience in mental health and well being support. Not only will you learn and help implement different therapeutic techniques to engage the students, you will also put your Psychological or Criminological knowledge into practical scenarios.

This is an extremely rewarding role but not without its challenges - the school are looking for a graduate who is caring, resilience, with a patient nature.
