Job description
Overview

We are seeking compassionate, experienced registered mental health professionals to join the Retreat West team as we replace the service at Maiden Castle Road, Dorchester with a new location in Weymouth. The partnership between lived and clinical experience is fundamental to the ethos and values of the Retreats, where registered practitioners and peer specialists work together to offer open‑access crisis mental health service every evening, providing a welcoming, safe space for people without referral or judgement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health crisis support to visitors and carers, including clinical assessments, brief therapeutic interventions, advice and signposting.
  • Use professional judgement to identify those attending the Retreat who may need further clinical input, risk assessment, and treatment beyond what the Retreat can offer and support them to access other services, liaising as necessary.
  • Support people in significant emotional distress to access their own resources and keep themselves safe.
  • Work alongside peer specialists in a socially inclusive way, aligned with the principles of the retreat.
Employment Details

Full and part‑time hours are available (minimum 15 hours or two shifts per week). The service operates 365 days a year, with shift times set at 16:00 to midnight. All reasonable flexible working requests will be considered.

DBS Requirement

Employment requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service may present a valid DBS certificate instead of undergoing a new check.

Relocation

The post will move to Weymouth in early 2026. A generous relocation package of up to £5,000 is offered; for further details please e‑mail dhc.careers@nhs.net.
