Job description
Mental Health Coordinator (Term Time Only - Maternity Cover)

Are you driven to support young people’s mental health and make a real difference in their lives?

Loughborough College Group is looking for a dedicated Mental Health Coordinator to join our Learner Services team on a fixed‑term maternity cover contract. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver mental health support across the college, ensuring learners receive timely and effective interventions that promote emotional well‑being and academic success.

In this role, you will work closely with learners, families, staff, and external agencies to provide one‑to‑one support and develop personalised transition plans. You’ll coordinate initiatives such as drop‑in sessions, breakfast clubs, and mental health tutorials, while also delivering staff training and accredited Mental Health First Aid courses. As part of the safeguarding team, you will play a key role in supporting learners at risk and contributing to the college’s mental health strategy.

We are seeking someone with experience of working with young people aged 16–18 and supporting mental health needs such as anxiety, depression, and self‑harm. Strong communication skills, knowledge of safeguarding legislation, and the ability to engage with diverse learners are essential. You should also be confident in planning and delivering targeted sessions and using IT systems effectively.

Applicants should hold GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade A–C or equivalent), a mental health qualification, and ideally a teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.

At Loughborough College, we are committed to Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE) and offer a supportive environment where every learner can thrive.

This role is a term‑time only contract working 40 weeks throughout the year and follows the Further Education term times.

Loughborough College Group is formed of Brooksby College, Loughborough College, Stephenson College and IGNITE Performing Arts. We offer a broad curriculum across campus and invest in modern facilities and resources.

We are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the very best people by offering a motivating and inclusive workplace. We celebrate diversity and are a disability‑confident employer, encouraging applications from under‑represented groups.

Benefits include a generous package:

  • On‑site parking
  • Access to healthcare scheme
  • Subsidised nursery fees
  • Additional annual leave available
  • Generous Maternity/Paternity pay
  • Fantastic CPD and inclusive resources for development
  • Opportunities for volunteering within local community and charities

All staff enjoy family‑friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements and support services for mental health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be employed by The Leicestershire College, a subsidiary of Loughborough College Group. Working conditions and terms differ from those at Loughborough College itself.

We are unable to provide skilled‑worker sponsorship. Applicants must have the right to work in the country without sponsorship.

All applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, and the college expects all staff to share its commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

We reserve the right to bring forward the closing date should we receive a sufficient level of interest.
