Overview

Broad software skillset needed for this mission-driven company. Essex / Cambs border. Technology developed by this Cambridge team has already made a major impact in the world, enabling rapid characterisation of pathogens, minimising delays and helping focus resources where they're needed. A mission-driven company, they are seeking a similarly motivated team member to assist them in bringing software development in-house, and further developing their product's capabilities and application areas.

This role encompasses the full technical stack, from embedded software driving diagnostic hardware through to a mobile app for user control and data presentation. This is a key role that will form the nucleus of a growing software team. You will be involved in all software engineering and work planning activities, but will act as a liaison for other stakeholders and the software domain expert within the organisation.

With the company still very much in its start-up phase, you may occasionally need to assist in other areas of the business when necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for a broad software engineering scope across the full tech stack, from embedded software to mobile and data presentation.
  • Act as the software domain expert within the organisation and liaise with other stakeholders.
  • Participate in all software engineering and work planning activities.
  • Support in-house software development and help grow the software team.
  • Assist in other areas of the business as needed due to start-up dynamics.
Qualifications
  • A good academic background with a 1st or 2.1 in Computer Science or similar from a well-respected university (a relevant PhD or post-graduate research experience would be desirable).
  • Broad software engineering skills spanning embedded, middleware, and mobile app development.
  • Expertise in Android, React Native, LAMP, MariaDB, and development in C for middleware and embedded RTOS (Cortex-M processors).
  • Python and C# for tools development.
  • Experience of working within a regulated environment, preferably IVDD or IVDR.
  • An appreciation of cybersecurity considerations.
