Overview

Mechanical Technician — Didcot. £28.66 per hour umbrella (Inside IR35) with a minimum of 35 hours per week. Contract to permanent.

Opportunity to join the UK’s largest rail freight company, with a focus on safety critical rail vehicle maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair safety critical rail vehicles, including locomotives and wagons, at the Didcot Depot.
  • Carry out maintenance on mechanical components such as brakes, suspension and wheelsets; understand electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and diesel engine maintenance principles.
  • Follow engineering instructions and written specifications, and work to established guidelines for rail vehicle maintenance.
  • Support training on systems and procedures (training will take place in the Midlands; initial 3–4 weeks away from home, during weekdays).
  • Use hand tools (e.g., torque wrenches) and maintain physical fitness required for the role.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in mechanical, electrical or engineering-based discipline (rail experience not required).
  • Ability to work on Saturdays and pass drug, alcohol testing and medical screening.
Requirements & Logistics
  • Location: Didcot Depot; immediate start for suitable candidates.
  • Must be able to work on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and diesel systems as part of maintenance activities.
  • Training located in the Midlands; willingness to stay away from home for an initial 3–4 weeks.
