A leading heavy engineering manufacturer in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their team. The role involves hands-on mechanical maintenance, leading TPM and PPM activities, and ensuring optimal equipment performance. Salary : £45,000 – £48,000 per annum
Hours : 7 : 00am – 3 : 30pm, Monday–Friday

Are you an experienced Maintenance Engineer looking to develop your career within a high-performing, heavy industrial environment?
Our client, a market-leading manufacturer, is seeking a proactive engineer to join their maintenance team. This is a day shift position with occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover, offering long-term stability, excellent support, and involvement in continuous improvement and high-value engineering projects.
Carry out hands‑on mechanical maintenance across heavy industrial production lines and associated plant.
Lead TPM and PPM activities to maximise equipment performance and minimise downtime.
Act as the main maintenance contact for production operations and contractor management.
Respond promptly to breakdowns, conducting detailed fault‑finding and root cause analysis.
Drive reliability improvements and support ongoing optimisation projects.
Collaborate closely with production and engineering teams across the facility.
Manage spare parts inventory and ensure correct materials are on hand.
Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior engineers.
Support machinery upgrades, installs, and plant expansion projects.
Maintain strict adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and risk assessments.
Mechanical Engineering Qualification : NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC; HNC advantageous.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a medium or heavy industrial maintenance environment.
Strong understanding of :
Hydraulics & pneumatics
Fluid power systems
Welding / fabrication
Machine shop practices
Confident interpreting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting or rolling equipment is highly desirable.
Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and provide cover on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern for holidays and absence.
Working Pattern :
Primary : Day Shift (Monday–Friday, 7 : 00am – 3 : 30pm)
Flexibility : Occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover as required
