Due to our ongoing success, we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions.

Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of associated outline and detailed designs to support the successful delivery of projects. Stantec is expanding the mechanical engineering team and welcomes applications from candidates passionate about hydropower. Various roles are available depending on experience and qualifications. These roles are based within the hydropower team but will support projects in other sectors including Water and Thermal projects.

In this role, you will work closely with clients and as part of a multi-disciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical designs, and liaise with other disciplines at feasibility, outline, and detailed stages to produce timely and cost-effective solutions. You will develop innovative, cost-effective solutions aligned with the client’s requirements.

About You
  • You will be Chartered or Incorporated with the IMechE, or working towards this status.
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Experience in design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
  • Experience with rotating machinery.
  • Knowledge in planning, specification, design, procurement, and commissioning of mechanical equipment for energy sector projects.
  • Ideally, competent in 3D modelling software such as Revit or AutoCAD, with experience in a BIM environment, and hydropower applications. Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection is also desirable. Additional experience with systems like HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, and mechanical services is a plus.
