Overview
Mechanical and Electrical Technician required at Cassington Sewage Treatment Works, OX29 4EB. You will ensure that equipment at the sewage treatment works runs safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment. Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, take part in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure the plant operates all year round.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
- Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
- Providing technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Working on equipment including pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
- Participating in a standby rota following relevant training.
Base Location: Cassington - OX29 4EB
Working Pattern: 38 Hours Monday - Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby and overtime opportunity increasing earnings by £8,000-£10,000.

What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
- A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalate if required.
- An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
- Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
- Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
- Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
- Full UK driving licence
