About the role

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Waste Operations team at Crossness STW. As the successful candidate, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team and carry out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdown. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water by performing a range of front-line activities, including operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance, and problem-solving to ensure services are delivered to time, cost, and quality standards. This will include planned and preventive maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant.

Base Location: Crossness - Abbey Wood, South East London - SE2 9AQ.

Working Pattern: 38 Hours Monday-Friday 7:30-3:36. Plus standby rota payments & overtime opportunities, increasing earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum, upon completion of essential company training.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician

• Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always a top priority by complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
• Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fixing these or escalating; planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
• Record work and asset information to improve business performance, and identify possible future risks, recommending changes in the course of day-to-day work and raising these for resolution as required.
• Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge, along with coaching, training and developing staff under their supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
• Deliver an excellent customer experience and positively contribute to overall customer satisfaction, interacting with internal and external customers in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:

• You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• A problem solver able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalate if required.
• Excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
• Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and a constantly changing environment.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative, to design to standards.
• Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
• Team player who can work in many different teams, show respect for others, provide helpful feedback and support the development of others.
• Full UK driving licence.
