Job description

Red Bull Powertrains have an exciting Mechanical Design ICE Student Placement opportunity for undergraduate students to spend a year as part of our Mechanical Design ICE team. The placement will run from summer of 2025 for one year and offer the opportunity to demonstrate your enthusiasm and apply your knowledge in an open and dynamic environment.

These placement opportunities will allow you to contribute to the mechanical engineering of Red Bull Powertrain's (RBPT) 2026 formula 1 Power Unit. You will become familiar with the Engineering design principals required to design the components a Formula 1 Power Unit, failure modes analysis technics required to identify root causes and have the opportunity to develop your Engineering skills solving some of the technical challenges RBPT face in our journey to 2026. You will be involved in all stages of the Engineering process. From conceptual design to manufacturing review and then on to Power Unit testing in our in-house dyno facility. Successful candidates will have a keen interest in mechanical design and development.

Expected Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience from at least one year of undergraduate study on either a mathematics, physics, or engineering based degree course
  • Knowledge of engineering software relevant to the chosen specialism such as CAD, FEA, CFD, or system modelling
  • Knowledge and experience of applying engineering mathematics to solving problems
  • Experience writing and preparing technical reports and documentation
  • Experience handling, processing, and understanding data from either virtual or physical testing
