Job summary

A growing engineering design consultancy is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a home-based role with occasional travel. Responsibilities include taking ownership of design work from concept through to installation, producing 3D models and technical documentation, and collaborating with suppliers. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy engineering and materials handling, along with skills in SolidWorks. Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within industrial / heavy engineering environments.
  • Experience with plant layouts and materials handling systems.
  • Understanding of steelwork/structural interfaces.
  • Pipework design/detailing beneficial.
  • CAD skills: SolidWorks essential.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of mechanical design work from concept to installation.
  • Produce 3D models, 2D drawings, layouts, and calculations.
  • Prepare supporting documentation such as technical dossiers.
  • Liaise with suppliers and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Ensure designs meet technical standards and client specifications.
