Mechanical Design Engineer - Salary up to £50K + Benefits - Cardiff

Are you a mechanical design engineer passionate about low‑carbon design and sustainable energy? Our client — an innovative engineering consultancy leading the way in heat decarbonisation — is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team.

You'll deliver detailed mechanical designs for plant rooms and building services, support major low‑carbon heat projects across the UK, and play a key role in shaping efficient, future‑ready energy systems.

What you’ll bring
  • ✅ Experience designing mechanical building services
  • ✅ Strong understanding of plant rooms, heating, cooling, and distribution systems
  • ✅ Proficiency with CAD tools (Revit, CAD, SketchUp)
  • ✅ Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and communicate clearly with clients
  • ✨ Desirable: experience in low‑carbon/renewable systems or working toward Chartership
What you’ll do
  • 📐 Develop detailed mechanical designs (RIBA/BSRIA Stages 3‑4)
  • 📝 Produce drawings, schematics, specifications, and project documentation
  • 📊 Complete load calculations, pipework sizing, and technical assessments
  • 🏗 Carry out site surveys of existing plant and distribution systems
  • 🤝 Support tender reviews and contractor evaluation
  • 🧩 Work closely with internal low‑carbon specialists to deliver integrated solutions
  • 📅 Attend and lead client meetings; manage project tasks and deliverables
  • 📚 Support and mentor junior engineers as the team continues to grow
