Overview

My client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their current Design Team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering principles and be able to create designs that are innovative, robust and cost–effective to manufacture. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing mechanical components, assemblies and systems, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the successful completion of each project.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models and 2D technical drawings of mechanical components and assemblies
• Communicate frequently & effectively with other departments & customers
• Analyse designs to ensure the optimal engineering solution is achieved
• Analyse designs to ensure manufacturability, cost & performance
• Develop prototypes and support testing of designs for functionality and reliability
• Research new technologies and materials to improve designs
• Produce supporting documentation, including buyoff proposals, design risk assessments & equipment manuals

Required Experience

• Previous experience in a special purpose machinery design role (experience with lifting equipment, along with pneumatic and electrical circuits & systems is of benefit)
• Experience working in a 3D CAD environment (SolidWorks preferred)
• Experience using full Microsoft Office suite
• Excellent communication skills both in team settings & customer facing
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Highly driven & self–motivated personality
• Appreciation for the requirements of electrical and pneumatic control systems within the mechanical design.
