Job Description:

Fortress Recruit is supporting a leading engineering organisation in their search for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their specialist team based in Dorset.

This role offers the chance to be involved across the full product lifecycle, from initial design concepts to supporting manufacturing, testing, and certification. You’ll develop innovative, high-performance solutions for demanding environments, while enhancing your skills in a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Transforming concepts into high-quality mechanical designs and documentation supporting real-world performance.
  • Participating in testing, validation, and review processes to ensure designs meet rigorous standards throughout their lifecycle.
  • Serving as a technical liaison across teams and with external partners to facilitate smooth collaboration.
  • Assessing materials and manufacturing methods, and contributing to certification and compliance processes.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • 3-5 years of proven experience in mechanical design, with a track record of delivering projects from concept to production.
  • A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Degree or equivalent).
  • An understanding of how materials, thermal factors, and motion systems influence robust product design.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements, with the ability to apply them effectively.
  • Eligibility to obtain security clearance (residency in the UK for at least 5 years without sponsorship).
