Mechanical & Commercial Heating Engineer

£55k per annum & travel & package

Location: West London and West End

Reports To: Estates & Facilities Manager

Salary: £55k per annum & vehicle/car allowance, 33 days holiday plus package and overtime.

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

My client are seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical & Heating Engineer to join their Estates & Facilities team. Based in the hospital's plant room, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all heating and mechanical systems critical to patient care and hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, and repair commercial heating, ventilation, and hot water systems within the hospital plant room.
  • Carry out routine servicing, fault diagnosis, and planned preventative maintenance on steam systems, pumps, pressurisation units, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital services.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with statutory compliance, health & safety regulations, and hospital policies.
  • Support energy efficiency initiatives and identify opportunities for performance improvements within the plant.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and assist with audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with other estates staff, contractors, and clinical teams to support the safe running of the hospital.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Heating & Ventilation, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing commercial heating systems, ideally within a healthcare or similar critical environment.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and team working skills.
