Job description

A client within the Public Sector based in Greater Manchester is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join their Property team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a Building Services Engineering environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role: To provide technical leadership, expertise, and strategic support in the compliant and effective management of the Council's property portfolio. You will lead the Mechanical Building Services Engineering function, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of maintenance, compliance, and project services across council and client buildings.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Providing technical expertise, leadership, and guidance in the delivery of mechanical building services.
  • Leading Mechanical BSE Engineers to deliver effective planned and reactive maintenance across the property portfolio.
  • Ensuring statutory compliance, including CDM responsibilities and effective contract administration.
  • Managing contractor and service provider performance to ensure high-quality, compliant, and efficient service delivery.
  • Enabling effective project delivery, including scope definition, budget management, risk control, and quality assurance.
The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • Appropriate technical or vocational qualifications in mechanical building services engineering, such as ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Core Gas Safety ACS qualifications.
  • Experience in the construction, design, maintenance, and management of mechanical building services systems within complex estates.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
  • Degree/HND in Building Services Engineering or equivalent Level 5/6 technical qualification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIBSE, ICWCI, or IET.
  • Experience mentoring technical staff, managing contractors, and implementing sustainable or low‑carbon solutions.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such is offering £35 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £25 per hour PAYE).
