Job Title: Mechanical Assembly / Strip & Clean Operative

Location: Melksham

Pay Rate: £14.40 per hour

Job Type: Ongoing Contract

Working Pattern: DAYS

Hours: Monday-Thursday: 07:00-15:30 / Friday: 07:00-12:00

We are currently recruiting for Mechanical Assembly / Strip & Clean Operatives to join a globally recognised engineering manufacturer within the rail industry, based in Melksham. This is an excellent long‑term contract opportunity offering stable daytime hours and early finishes on Fridays.

Working within a well‑organised production environment and following standard operating procedures, you will be involved in the assembly, testing, dismantling, cleaning, and preparation of safety‑critical mechanical products. Full training will be provided alongside experienced permanent staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical assembly of precision and safety‑critical components
  • Dismantling, stripping, and cleaning of mechanical systems (including braking systems)
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Using hand tools and assembly equipment confidently and safely
  • Quality checking and testing assembled or refurbished products
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping at all times
What We're Looking For
  • Experience within a mechanical or engineering environment (assembly, fitting, strip & clean, or similar)
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings or follow detailed procedures
  • Good manual dexterity and physical capability to handle tools and components
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Reliable, hardworking, and a strong team player
