Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Support Worker to join the team within the Antenatal Clinic Outpatient Department.

You must be experienced, enthusiastic, caring and able to work autonomously as well as part of a team providing women and their families excellent clinical care alongside the midwifery and wider medical teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support Midwives and Doctors to ensure all women receive optimum care.
  • Implement plans of care for pregnant women within the hospital setting.
  • Perform delegated patient duties, including recording and documenting patient details in pregnancy notes and on computer.
Main Duties
  • Undertake safe phlebotomy practice as requested, including blood sampling and Glucose Tolerance Testing.
  • Record and report physiological measurements accurately to the Midwife.
  • Obtain samples such as wound swabs and urine specimens upon request of a Midwife or Doctor.
  • Identify and report safeguarding and domestic violence concerns to appropriate health professionals.
  • Apply infection control policy and aid in minimizing risk; participate in cleaning and infection control within the department.
  • Chaperone medical staff during examinations.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations within the remit of the MSW role.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies, Standard Operating Procedures and clinical guidelines.
