Overview of the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Materials Controller (Quality) to manage, track, and coordinate the movement and inventory of materials throughout our operations. The ideal candidate will ensure materials are received, inspected, stored, and distributed accurately and efficiently, supporting production schedules and minimizing downtime while maintaining traceability. The role supports production by ensuring materials and builds conform to specifications, quality plans, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining accurate inventory control and supporting continuous improvement through lean methodologies.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels of materials and supplies.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials and reconcile against purchase orders.
- Coordinate material deliveries to production or project sites as per schedule.
- Maintain proper documentation and records for material movements and transactions (Maintain traceability).
- Work closely with procurement, warehouse, and project teams to forecast material needs.
- Identify and report any material shortages, excesses, or quality issues.
- Ensure proper storage practices to maintain material quality and minimize loss or damage.
- Issue material to production in line with works order and build schedules.
- Conduct periodic inventory counts and audits to ensure stock accuracy.
- Assist with implementation and improvement of materials tracking systems.
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and compliance procedures.
- Coordinate the return of unused, defective, or surplus materials to suppliers or central storage, ensuring appropriate documentation, labelling, and condition checks.
- Liaise with procurement and quality teams to manage and track return authorizations and credit notes where applicable.
- Co-ordinating with procurement and production to ship completed products to clients or testing facilities.
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience as a Materials Controller, Storekeeper, Inventory Coordinator, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of supply chain, inventory, and warehouse processes.
- Proficient in inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems).
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, email, etc.).
Nice to have
- Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications and ITPs.
- Familiarity with ERP systems.
- Experience in lean manufacturing, 5S, ISO9001.
Security and Compliance
- Subject to security clearance and background screening.
- Must be eligible to work in a nuclear and defence environment.
