Job description
Overview

We are KLA, designing high‑tech capital equipment for the semiconductor industry. In this role you’ll work in our high‑performing manufacturing team to assemble and test complex wired and wireless wafers covering temperature, vibrations, wafer handling, and optical sensors. The role is based at our state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing facility in Newport, South Wales, providing an opportunity to work with innovative technology and learn precision manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities
  • Operate fixturing/tooling or hand‑held electronic equipment (voltmeter, caliper, oscilloscope) to test cable assembly or electronic assembly boxes.
  • Manual soldering of small electronic components (using a microscope) onto printed circuit boards (resistors, capacitors, dies).
  • Visual inspection using a microscope (20x magnification) for dies, resistors, capacitors to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Implement a systematic problem‑solving approach to find root cause and make a correction plan for equipment, material, and process issues.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering teams to resolve issues with released products.
  • Handling or attaching small components (die, capacitors, resistors) using tweezers and in‑house build fixture.
  • Perform visual inspection IQC (incoming quality inspection)/OQC (outgoing quality inspection) on raw parts (flex, PCBA, silicon substrate).
  • Handle dilute chemical solutions (IPA, DI water, acetone, epoxy) to clean products.
  • Perform functional tests on products.
  • Responsibilities may include operating CNC machines depending on production needs.
Qualifications
  • HNC/HND qualified in electrical, electronic engineering (or similar subject) or hold an equivalent level qualification.
  • Ideally have experience in electronic assembly, PCB assembly and soldering.
  • Possesses excellent analytical and fault‑finding skills.
  • Ability to utilise electrical and mechanical schematics to rectify faults and defects.
  • Know how to operate fixturing/tooling or hand‑held electronic equipment (voltmeter, caliper, oscilloscope).
  • Experience in providing supervision and guidance to team members is desirable.
  • Demonstrates strong communication.
  • Enjoy establishing and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues in your own and wider team.
  • Have experience in a manufacturing and/or shop‑floor environment.
  • Clean room experience is desirable.
  • Familiar with handling wafers/substrates.
  • Experience with MS Office products.
