A leading Defence and Aerospace company in Ampthill is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a 5-month contract, offering £35 per hour. The role involves developing manufacturing processes, defining production layouts, and creating technical specifications. Manufacturing Engineer

5‑month contract, based in Ampthill, offering £35 per hour inside IR35.

About the role

As the Manufacturing Engineer you will work alongside a market‑leading Defence and Aerospace company that is constantly growing and developing. You will be involved in:

  • Develop manufacturing processes
  • Defining sequence of operations, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing and material handling
  • Providing basis of estimates for engineering activities and shop floor operations
  • Identifying any new tooling & fixturing requirements
  • Creating Technical Requirement Specifications
  • Producing detailed process instructions
  • Creating Manufacturing BOMs/routings
  • Maintaining close liaison with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering and other functions
  • Supporting business process reviews and updating relevant documentation
Required skill set
  • Detailed Assembly Processing knowledge (Electro‑Mechanical, Bonding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality improvement tools
  • Experience with CAD software for generating 2D technical drawings
  • Solid understanding of MRP systems
  • Experience managing BOMs and routings in SAP (or similar ERP systems)
  • Collaborative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
  • Composite processing knowledge
