Manager, Commercial Advisory and Assurance - Planning, Scheduling and Project Controls. The team is based in London, Manchester and Birmingham, with a network of 20 offices nationally. KPMG\'s Major Projects Advisory (MPA) team works with industry-leading organisations, helping to solve some of the biggest challenges in infrastructure. As a market leader, we work with a client base across the commercial and public sectors, delivering lasting results on projects and programmes which are household names. Our Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) is recognised as a leading independent strategic advisor in the infrastructure sector, providing in-depth advice on the strategic, economic, financial and commercial issues driving infrastructure projects spanning transport, power and utilities, social infrastructure and central government departments and private sector bodies in the UK and internationally.

There is no one-size-fits-all in MPA; we are diverse and our people are our most important asset. We focus on providing clarity to Boards, Executives and SROs at major public and private sector organisations, on the delivery of their projects and programmes. We work on some of the UK\'s most strategically important programmes across sectors including transport, natural resources, energy, power and utilities, corporates, oil & gas, defence, health, housing and education. Our team comprises specialists with deep construction industry experience from project owners, contractors, engineering consultants and others in the UK and overseas. As we continue to grow, we are investing in our team to drive capability, joining one of the fastest growing areas of the firm at a time of real significance.

What will you be doing?

This role is for an innovative professional at manager level, who can work alongside our existing team to use their lived experience of planning, scheduling and project controls in construction to solve complex problems. There is no one-size fits-all in MPA; we are diverse and our people are our most important asset. Managers in our team are client-facing and at the forefront of delivery. This role requires strong post-qualification experience ideally gained from several infrastructure-related projects and programmes, but we\'ll happily consider candidates with experience in other relevant fields. As one of the senior consultants on the ground, you\'ll apply your experience daily, bringing to life tailored solutions for our clients while managing important relationships.

What will you need to do it?

For this opportunity, we\'re looking for candidates with strong post-qualification planning and project controls experience, primarily built around the planning, scheduling and project controls area of major projects and programmes. This could be as a contractor, consultant, or within a government role. Your track record should evidence:

  • Strong experience in leading and managing tasks that include monitoring, reporting, scheduling, cost control, risks management, change control, opportunities for improvement and implementing project controls best practices
  • Some experience in a consulting environment or directly advising clients, either for another consultancy or in an advisory role in industry or government
  • Experience in major projects and programmes, ideally in infrastructure of one of our priority sectors of transport, defence, power and utilities or nuclear
  • At least a working level of familiarity with delivery of major projects and programmes within the UK public sector
  • Strong experience of managing teams and applying project and programme controls, with a passion for the discipline
  • Some experience in the implementation of earned value management in accordance with relevant national standards
  • Developing tools and reporting for Project Controls
  • Risk identification and analysis
  • Project and programme performance monitoring and assurance
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • An ability to build and maintain great relationships and a desire to network across our firm
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • A desire to learn and develop new skills within planning and project controls
  • Proficiency in using Excel, MS Project and Oracle P6

  • Dispute advisory or expert witness experience
  • Supporting the delivery of advisory services such as organisational design and governance optimisation
  • Performance and efficiency improvement
  • Enhancing project and programme controls
  • Troubled project/programme reviews
