Manager - Accountancy Practice

A long-established accountancy practice is seeking a General Practice Manager to support the effective day-to-day running of its Bury St Edmunds office.
This role focuses on overseeing client delivery, managing teams and supporting Partners with operational and strategic matters. The position offers a balanced mix of technical involvement, people management and client interaction within a professional practice environment.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring accounts and tax compliance work is delivered accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Review and finalise statutory accounts, management accounts, forecasts and related working papers.
- Oversee personal and corporate tax compliance, including review of returns and supporting calculations.
- Provide oversight of VAT, payroll and company secretarial services where applicable.
- Act as a point of contact for client queries and maintain ongoing professional relationships.
- Monitor workflow, budgets, billing and recovery for assigned clients.
- Identify opportunities to provide additional services in line with client needs.
- Supervise, review and support the work of team members to ensure quality and consistency.
- Carry out regular reviews, appraisals and performance discussions with direct reports.
- Support Partners with compliance requirements, operational planning and process improvement.
- Contribute to the effective use of accounting and practice management software.
- Attend client meetings and internal management meetings as required.
Personal Requirements
- Previous experience in an accountancy practice or professional services environment.
- Experience managing or supervising staff.
- Sound knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance processes.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
- ACA / ACCA qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience using accounting and practice management software is beneficial.
