Overview

Apex Appoint is working on behalf of a well-established and growing food manufacturer based in Malton, who are looking to add an Engineering Team Leader to their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong people management skills and a solid engineering background in the food or FMCG sector. You’ll be responsible for leading a team of Maintenance Engineers on shift, supporting the day-to-day running of the site while driving improvements across engineering performance.

The role is based on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern, working 6am to 6pm, with a salary of £51,500. You’ll oversee both planned and reactive maintenance, support safe systems of work on site, and ensure all work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

There is a strong focus on continuous improvement, so experience with lean tools and an ability to spot opportunities to improve workflow and output will be key. You’ll also play a big part in supporting wider site KPIs, working closely with the Engineering Manager, and helping develop the capability of the team through coaching and clear performance expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Maintenance Engineers on shift to support day-to-day site operations
  • Oversee both planned and reactive maintenance and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Support safe systems of work on site and maintain compliance with safety and permit requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement using lean tools and identify opportunities to improve workflow and output
  • Support wider site KPIs and collaborate with the Engineering Manager
  • Develop the capability of the team through coaching and clear performance expectations
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Experience leading or supervising engineering teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Solid mix of mechanical and electrical skills
  • Understanding of compliance, safety systems, and permit control
  • Experience with CMMS systems and structured PPM schedules
  • Ability to identify and deliver improvements through lean thinking and CI activity
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
