Engineering Maintenance Team Leader- Bridgwater

Location: Bridgwater

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (Days & Nights)

The Role

We are recruiting for an Engineering Maintenance Team Leader to join a well-established FMCG manufacturing business with multiple UK sites. This is a hands‑on, electrically biased leadership role, responsible for leading a small engineering team while remaining heavily involved in day‑to‑day maintenance and fault finding across the site.

Operating within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, you will ensure machinery uptime, support continuous improvement projects, and maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

You will report directly to the Site Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a small engineering team on shift
  • Manage holiday planning, overtime, and work schedules
  • Provide hands‑on electrical and mechanical fault finding
  • Support and deliver engineering and improvement projects
  • Maintain and troubleshoot:
    • 3‑phase motors, drives and inverters
    • Pumps, pneumatics and hydraulics
    • Conveyor systems
    • Packaging, thermoforming and extrusion machinery
  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance
  • Remain effective under pressure and tight production deadlines
  • Complete maintenance documentation and CMMS entries accurately
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
  • Electrically biased maintenance background
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong electro‑mechanical fault‑finding capability
  • Multi‑skilled mechanical maintenance knowledge
  • Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent
  • City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 / HNC (or equivalent)
  • Manufacturing background (FMCG preferred)
Desirable:
  • Experience in fast‑moving production environments
  • Forces/Armed Services background considered for exceptional candidates
Competencies
  • 3-5 years' experience within an engineering role
  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent
  • Proven technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Strong problem‑solving ability
  • Proactive, self‑starting approach
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workloads effectively
  • Computer literate with experience using CMMS systems
  • Accurate paperwork and data entry skills
  • Strong communication and ability to work cross‑functionally
  • Willingness to undertake further training and certifications as required
Salary & Benefits

£26.28 per hour (inclusive of shift allowance)

Equivalent annual salary: £64,624

Shift pattern:
  • 4 on / 4 off
  • Rotating days and nights
  • 06:00-18:00 / 18:00-06:00
  • 22 days annual leave
  • Life assurance - 1x annual salary
  • Enhanced sickness scheme (post first year)
