Job description
Responsibilities
  • You will provide engineering, maintenance and breakdown support to the hospital site.
  • Provide competent technical, health, safety and environmental support & assistance at all times.
  • Support the engineering technicians and engineering assistants in carrying out their role.
  • Review work orders within the MMS and allocate appropriate resources to each site within the cluster. Act as the Engineering primary day to day customer interface.
  • Line management responsibility to all on‑site engineering operatives within designated hospital/region.
  • To ensure the Engineering Planned Preventative Maintenance Routine has been completed as detailed in the Standard Operating Procedure manuals. The level of undertaking of each engineer will be based on the competency level established and ongoing internal development will enable working towards providing a comprehensive PPM coverage across the whole site with engineering technicians.
  • Ensure response to all reactive calls within Service Level Agreement (SLA).
  • Ensure all Statutory Insurance Inspections are undertaken and remedial tasks resolved within hospital / region.
  • Escalate reactive calls which require specialist involvement to resolve.
  • To attend and support H&S or Infection Control meetings as requested by site.
  • Ensure that the site is safe and working effectively by maintaining Health & Safety requirements.
  • Respond effectively and timely to ad‑hoc customer requirements.
  • Provide advice on technical and compliance issues affecting the site to clinical and non‑clinical staff.
  • Provide technical input as required on equipment purchase.
  • Provide input, advice and support of policies & procedures.
  • Ensure all Corporate led engineering initiatives are implemented within hospital / region.
  • Feedback on findings to enable continuous improvements of planned maintenance & maintenance techniques working towards a condition based maintenance regime.
  • Provide feedback and direction on the Standard Maintenance Manual to Group Estates Manager.
  • Provide Medical Gases first Line support as at least the nominated Responsible Person (RP MGPS) on site. This includes but is not limited to writing Low hazard permits and delivering the practical element of medical gas training along with working closely with the Authorised Person (APMGPS). The Senior Engineering Manager may also fulfil the role of AP(MGPS).
  • Provide advice and support on Health and Safety along with maintenance, testing and assisting in delivering the practical element of fire systems training.
  • Completing the Fire Risk Assessment with assistance from hospital managers and other engineering colleagues / external consultants.
  • Provide operational support and input to Project Management as and when required ensuring common standards and specifications are utilised throughout the hospital / region.
  • Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) as required for all portable equipment used throughout the hospital at intervals defined by both policy and Risk assessment.
  • Arrange and be available to participate in multi‑site on‑call out of hours cover for hospital / region.
  • Be available to work in any other agreed RHC location to assist in engineering absence cover.
  • To liaise with Contractors, gather estimates and sign permits for minor repair and replacement works.
  • To liaise with the Hospital and Corporate Coordinators.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in line managing in a Maintenance Environment post apprenticeship or qualifications gained.
  • Experience in managing and co‑ordinating Contractors and Service Engineers.
  • City & Guilds Part 3, HNC, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Time served apprenticeship in a Mechanical or Electrical biased discipline.
  • Understanding of Quality Management, customer satisfaction and the continuous improvement process.
  • Duel or multi‑skilled with the core skill preferably Electrical.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety guidelines and applicable law.
  • Understanding of Legionella prevention requirements within hospital buildings.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of organisation & time management skills, particularly in an environment with multiple, and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Sound fault finding techniques.
  • Fire safety or Fire Risk Assessment training.
  • Previous experience of a CAFM system.
  • AP / MGPS Medical Gases.
  • AP / D Decontamination.
  • IOSH Health and Safety / Risk Assessment training.
  • L8 / ACOP Legionella training.
