Long-Acting Reversible Contraception Healthcare Assistant

The Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Healthcare Assistant (HCA) supports the delivery of community-based Long-Acting Reversible Contraception services for patients registered with GP practices in Barking & Dagenham. Working as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team, the post holder provides patient‑focused support before, during, and after LARC procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate care within their scope of practice.

This includes requirements relating to clinical governance, service delivery, audit and escalation processes, incident reporting, complaints management, and organisational reporting arrangements.

Main duties of the job

The Long-Acting Reversible Contraception Healthcare Assistant provides direct clinical and administrative support within LARC clinics, including welcoming and supporting patients, preparing and maintaining clinical environments, assisting GPs during procedures, and maintaining accurate clinical records using EMIS. The role includes stock and equipment management, adherence to infection prevention and control standards, supporting referral pathways, and contributing to audits and patient feedback processes, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Duties include preparing clinical environments, supporting clinicians during LARC procedures, welcoming and supporting patients, maintaining accurate clinical records, and managing stock and equipment. The role contributes to high‑quality service delivery in line with organisational policies, clinical governance requirements, and agreed care pathways.

Service‑Specific Duties:
  • Patient Reception & Support: Provide a warm and professional welcome to all patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and well‑informed upon arrival.
  • Clinical Assistance: Directly support General Practitioners (GPs) during medical procedures, examinations, and routine clinical tasks.
  • Systems Management: Maintain accurate patient records and manage clinical data entry using the EMIS Clinical system.
  • Inventory & Stock Control: Monitor and manage stock levels to ensure all clinical rooms and administrative areas are fully equipped and organised.
