Logistics Manager

Location: Newcastle-under Lyme ST5

Reports to: Logistics Manager

Shift Pattern

4 on 4 off days and nights (2 Day Shifts 2 Night Shifts - 4 off). 07:00 -19:00 / 19:00-07:00. 12‑hour shifts.

Permanent Vacancy

Annual Pay Rate: £40,000 to £46,000. Monthly Pay, PAYE. Statutory Deductions for TAX, NI and (Pension if not opted) out apply.

Role Purpose

Logistics Manager provides strong leadership and direction to supply chain teams across transport and despatch operations. The role ensures products are safely assembled, accurately dispatched, and delivered to customers on time and in full. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, is responsible for driving continuous improvement across operational performance, leading change, and developing individuals and shift teams to meet business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health & Safety: Promote and maintain a Safety First culture at all times. Support and contribute to risk assessments within departments. Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety standards, Safe Systems of Work, and current legislation. Ensure all team members understand and adhere to safety policies.
  • People Leadership: Set clear performance goals and targets for team members. Ensure shifts are fully staffed, trained, briefed, monitored, and motivated. Manage absence, investigations, and disciplinary matters in partnership with HR, unions, and management. Recruit, train, and develop team members in line with company values.
  • Operational & Quality Management: Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance System (QAS) standards. Ensure dispatched goods meet customer expectations, including code control. Ensure vehicles are correctly documented, loaded, and secured. Maintain responsibility for food safety, product integrity, traceability, and product withdrawal procedures.
  • Cost & Performance Control: Control shift costs, including labour, absence, damage, and stock losses. Drive efficiency and continuous improvement across logistics operations.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Health & Safety performance, including FLT audit completion.
  • Budget management within agreed targets.
  • Quality of goods dispatched meeting QAS and customer standards.
  • Effective use of labour and equipment in line with safety and cost objectives.
  • Order fill accuracy, stock control, and loss reduction.
  • Time window compliance.
  • NM&H reporting and closure.
  • Management of driver infringements.
Skills & Experience Required
  • CPC qualified (or willing and motivated to achieve qualification).
  • Full car driving licence.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience.
  • Previous experience in a transport or logistics operation.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Computer literate with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with evidence of delivering process improvements.
